If you do want to update it to use the new 1.8 features, this is a template for the new layout. Minecraft tutorial on how to convert 1.7 skins to 1.8 and back to 1.7. Works in progress is a showcase for new and upcoming skins in progress. 1.8 will be backwards compatible with 1.7 skins, so if you like yours the way it is you don't need to convert anything.
